Detour history of psychology: behaviorism great revolution in psychology. Idea: everyone is born on a clean slate learning is the core claimed they could study learning by looking at behavior (what something does) and ignoring mentalistic concepts like memory studied what they can see. Ex: the rat the presses on the liver of a box = behavior. But didn"t want to use mentalistic processes like memory. This created a different school of thought in the 60: cognitivism. Focused on understanding more than we can see. The study of memory is a major focus of: cognitive psychology cognitive neuroscience cognitive ethology/ecology and neuroethology/neuroecology e. g. , food caching in birds and squirrels. The process by which we acquire, store, maintain, and retrieve information about the past or the future . Memory for the future; remembering to do things in the future. Tied with the frontal lobe (=not all animals have this memory)
