Measured in strange situation task with 12 month old infants and parent. 3 attachment pattern: secure attachment use parent as secure base. Upset when the parent goes: insecure attachment 1- anxious-avoidant: no obvious distress when parent goes and avoid their parent on return. 2- anxious-resistant: very upset and seek parent but reject comfort. Temperament biologically based tendency to behave in certain ways from early in life. Slow-to-warm up (15%) slightly irregular, slightly strong initial responses. 35% of children aren"t in one of these categories. Hardest to parent children with behavioral challenges. Adolescence begins with physical changes and ends in society. Formal operational stage abstract thinking & scientific reasoning. Individual differences systematic hypothesis testing, perception of differences between beliefs and reality, and is similar to theory of mind. Ongoing development of high-level cognitive skills planning ahead and evaluating consequences of action. Frontal lobes abstract thoughts & planning, last area to develop and connected to impulsive behavior.
