Document Summary
Sensation: involves transduction of the physical world into neural impulses, stimulus detection process by which sense organs respond to & translate environmental stimuli into nerve impulses that are sent to the brain, perception, involves binding these sensory impulses into a representation of the world, makes sense" of what our senses tell us. 5 classical senses: vision, hearing (audition), touch, taste (gustation) & smell (olfaction, can be subdivided into separate senses, note: there are other senses, i. e. ) senses that provide info about balance & body position, psychophysics, the relationship between physical stimuli & the sensations about them that we experience, psychophysicists study. Sensation: perception, psychophysics, refers to the activities by which our sense organs receive & transmit info, involves the brain"s processing and interpretation of info, study of how physical properties of stimuli are related to sensory experiences, sensory sensitivity.
