PHYL 2044 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Urinary System, Osmotic Concentration, Body Fluid
Document Summary
The renal system regulates the composition and the volume of all the body fluids: they are very large fluid components that have a regulated and consistent composition. And if the number drastically change, it is an indication that something is wrong: the job of the renal system to ensure that the numbers don"t change in the face of different situations. A closed system: what comes into the system = food we eat and fluids we drink balanced by what leaves the system, most of these the lungs, feces, sweat (what leaves passively) are not regulated. We don"t control throse to control body composition: the renal system has to take up the slack and make sure that the overall output matches the overall intake, but also water itself. The amount of water coming in regulates the volume matched by the output.
