The outer edges of the eye is covered in white, proteinaceous material called the sclera. At the front, the sclera becomes more transparent and is filled is a watery fluid called the aqueous humor to form the cornea. There is chamber behind the first layer of the cornea, which is filled with very watery fluid, behind that is the ring of colored muscled called the iris with the hole in the middle, the pupil. Behind all these is the lens and the lens serves the function of focusing the light coming in the eye. The lens is held in place by special fibers called the zonule fibers by connecting to the ciliary muscles. The lens is a proteinaceous material and is transparent. It is a bit rubbery to allow shape changes. Behind the lens is the chamber of the eye.
