PHYL 2041 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Soleus Muscle, Myocyte, Motor Neuron
Document Summary
In the skeletal muscle, they can be divided into 3 types. The slow muscle type 1 i. e. soleus muscle on the back of your lower leg. And most of the body parts are of the slow muscle type. For tension generation, it takes longer 90 sec for the muscle to produce tension and starts to decay. Because of this, it has a high content of mitochondria, which produce energy with the help of oxygen. They also have a lot of myoglobin, which makes the muscle more red. Myoglobin = molecule that carries oxygen in skeletal muscle. These muscles fatigue very slowly and can be used for sustained activity. Fast muscle type, one example, is the lateral rectus in the eye one of the muscles that helps the eye to move.
