Sexual determination: the point at which an individual becomes a male or female, suggests that before this point, the individual is a neither gender. During development - mainly before birth and at puberty. Irreversible: the hormone must be present, and in an appropriate environment at the time of development, in rats - males have more cell bodies in the pre-optic area, found in many rodent species, possibly in humans, activational. Reversible and malleable, depends on the hormones present and their concentrations at the time. Use the structures made by the organizational effects. One of the effects is in males, to boost sexual desire. Testing causal links: hormonally-dependent behaviours should disappear with hormone removal, behaviours reappear when hormone levels are restored, hormone levels and behaviours should be correlated, doesnt really work well with humans.
