Generally authenticity would be considered being honest, humble, earnest coming from an honest place expressing what you think, being modest about it. Also the idea of people having roots or connections of the people who came for them. Folk music revival during the depression etc. In the 60s, people were just going back to the roots of folk music from the depression. An appreciation and understanding, trying to position yourself in some way where you can understand the scene. This music is contemplated and these are the people who have the privilege to think about these things and not just working more hours to get by. They have the time to indulge in this kind of mental captivity.
