Infection: viral exanthems: more common in children, most are non-specific, most are self-limiting, some have distinct clinical presentations. Measles virus (mev: enveloped, ssrna(-, family: paramyxoviridae; genus: morbillivirus, causes measles (rubeola, presents as morbilliform rash. R naught (r0: average no. of people that one sick person will infect, r0 for mev = 18 (highly contagious!) With one mev infected individuals in an unvaccinated population, mev can spread to 18 other individuals. Measles (rubeola: transmission: contact and aerosol (not droplet)! The reason why measles is so infectious is because it is transmitted not only through contact but also as an aerosol. Aerosol viruses can stay in the environment for a long period of time and can spread a long distance through ventilation systems: can present with respiratory symptoms, viremia, systemic spread.
