This disease is called acute flaccid myelitis: symptoms are similar to the virus that causes polio, afm can be caused by enterviruses, flavivirus, adenovirus, ev68 common in the fall. In 2014, 1,153 people had significant disease from ev-68. There is an outbreak of ev68 enterovirus 68. It can be either transmitted the respiratory route or through the gastrointestinal route (oral-fecal route) What can be glycosylated: only host proteins, only viral proteins, both viral and host proteins**** (both are glycosylated when the virus enters the cell, neither. The virus comes into the cell and uses the (cid:272)ell"s (cid:373)a(cid:272)hi(cid:374)ery to tra(cid:374)s(cid:272)ri(cid:271)e a(cid:374)d translate. In the golgi, that is where proteins are glycosylated. Viral proteins that are translated within the cell can be glycosylated through this route right along (cid:449)ith host"s proteins. Glycoprotein are proteins which contain oligosaccharide chains (glycans) covalently attached to amino acid side-chains.
