Antony van leeuwenhoek was the dude who saw and described the wee animalcules first. First clinical advances: edward jenner gave the first form of live vaccine in an unethical experiment exposing a boy to cowpox by scratching him with a contaminated needle which resulted in a mild form of disease. This is the origin of the concept of immunity and host defence. Louis pasteur: disproved aristotle"s stupid idea of spontaneous generation by the life force by the swan neck flask experiment. Elie metchnikoff: studied starfish, noticed phagocytosis and that was the beginning of the discovery of what we now call the innate immune system. Sanger: dna (sanger) sequencing method still used today decoding the blueprint of life! Kary mullis: messed up cool dude who dreamt up the polymerase chain. Reaction (pcr) which is used to amplify dna samples just like dna is replicated in cells but in test tubes.
