Extraction takes place under mostly legally regulated processes in north america, but there are still conflicts. Extraction literally funds and supports physical conflicts and violence. Natural resources extracted in a conflict zone and sold to perpetuate fighting. Also, petroleum (isil/isis uses petroleum revenue to finance military and terrorist activities) Democratic republic of congo is the largest miner of coltan, but rwanda is the largest exporter.
