Document Summary

Most of the world"s land surface has been sculpted by running water. Waters involved in; erosion, transportation, and deposition o. The landforms that are shaped by the progressive removal of bedrock are erosional landforms. Mineral materials are removed from slopes and stream channels by erosion, carving out gorges and valleys. The sediments are deposited downstream, where they build up, forming plains, levees, fans, and deltas. Splash erosion occurs when falling raindrops hit bare soil, in which their force lifts soil particles which fall back into new positions. Soil surface becomes less able to absorb water. Rill erosion scores many closely spaced channels, or rills, into the soil and regolith. Overtime these rills can join to make larger channels which deepen rapidly, turning into gullies - steep walled, canyon like trenches whose upper ends grow progressively upslope. o. Soil particles that are picked up and deposited, accumulate in a thickening layer called a colluvium.
