Socrates in the apology appears to be at odds with his assumed total ignorance (especially in his use of language. Their are forms of knowledge that transcend skepticism. Jury must choose between accused and prosecutors choice of punishment. Plato has socrates mention plato"s presence at trial: sets apology apart from other dialogues, less of plato"s writing style, more of socrates speech. Belonging to the polis is complying with it. Meletus" perspective is expressing the status quo; democratic in its inclusiveness; pre-revolutionary. In most areas of life you don"t go to the masses you go to the master; implicitly anti- democratic; not everyone should rule or decide, only those who know. Only considers death in an anecdotal fashion. Socrates contrasts his speech with everyone else: no embroidered phrases. Friday, september 9, 2016: encouraging an authenticity to oneself. Question of human wisdom vs. divine wisdom. Human wisdom: knowing trades, knowing that you know nothing, uncertain.
