Document Summary

Don"t usually kill plants (grazers) most plants will recover from this. Can be very selecive in what they eat. Preferences are usually caused by secondary plant substances. Structural: thorns, spines and prickles, tough leaves and thick bark, size, numbers. Toxins that are acive in high concentraions: quality. Toxins that will be lethal even in small concentraions. Typically come from the producion of by-products while make substances that are useful for the plant. Waste products: to avoid poisoning themselves they excrete it. Purposefully made: well-defended plants have a higher itness therefore produce their own toxins. To survive oten imes organisms need to cooperate and typically it is reciprocal exploitaion. Plants require pollinators and therefore there is a ight co-evoluion of both species. Plants need to atract animals to disperse their seeds: either a posiive (+/+) or one sided (+/0) Plants evolve towards seed dispersal and not seed destrucion: fruit would be an example of promoion of seed dispersal.
