Document Summary

Search for paterns of plant and animal life that can be placed on a map. Some larger islands have less species because of environmental extremes. Species are very much adjusted to the elevaion. Mountain ranges are also barriers to movement as species can t go over them. Richness increases with area in a direct correlaion. When plot colonizaion and exincion rate on the same graph, the intersecion point is the point of equilibrium. Predicions: small island means smaller populaions which mean a higher exincion rate and a lower point of equilibrium, islands closer to the mainland have higher colonizaion rate which means a higher equilibrium point. The more isolated an island is the fewer species (lower colonizaion rate. The intersecion point is the number of species on the island.
