Eros (positives of life) and thanatos (death instinct) as opposing forces. Tries to find the balance between the two i. e. you want it buts it bad for you so have a small piece. Culture within i. e. you don"t need cake its bad for your health. Id and superego are in constant states of conflict with the ego balance the two.
