THEO 202 Lecture Notes - Lecture 71: Messiah In Judaism, New Revised Standard Version

6 views2 pages

Document Summary

There is no scholarly consensus on this issue. If jesus did view himself as any messiah: his disciples are presented as not understanding his (high) christological nature. Thus, for his life time, most people would have viewed jesus as a prophet: he was also from the house of david, some thus also seem to seen jesus as the davidic messiah. He, however, teaches that the messiah will not be from the house of david: 36 david himself, by the holy spirit, declared, "the lord said to my lord, "sit at my right hand, until i put your enemies under your feet. "" 37 david himself calls him lord; so how can he be his son?" Jesus thus presents himself as a prophet: he speaks a message from god, through having god"s spirit, like the prophets, he performs miracles, like prophets such as moses, elijah, and elisha.
