15 views3 pages

Document Summary

Concept developed by marx, the word primitive is used to describe the accumulation of wealth before capitalism. Builds upon the ideology that stated that people were rich because they and their ancestors were hardworking, thrifty, and really smart. What accompanies this thought is the idea that the poor working class and their ancestors were lazy, did not work hard enough and are dumb. Marx believed that this was a myth. People were not born into their positions but rather gained power through force and breaking the laws (conquests, enslavement, robbery and murder) People who are wealthy did not earn or deserve their wealth. Money and commodities are no more capital than the means of production and subsistence. In order to be transformed into capital, there needs to be a contact between the capitalist who owns the means of production as well as the free worker who sells his labor to the capitalist.
