Document Summary
Axon (branches off the cell body) very important for transmission of neural signals/electrical signals. Axon hillock connects the cell body and the axon. Nodes of ranvier spacing in between each little compartment. Myelin sheath surrounds axon as it goes to the axon terminal, is made out of fat & is very good for transmitting neural impulses, as it acts as insulation to preserve the concentration of the current. Nucleus contains all the dna (genetic material) Mitochondrion cell"s energy powerhouse, where the cell produces atp (the cellular energy currency) Ribosome"s genetic material transcribes mrna, mrna goes to the ribosome"s where it is translated into proteins (recruits the appropriate amino acids for whatever the protein sequence is). Rough er helps package the proteins in conjunction with the ribosomes. Rough er and ribosomes work together to synthesize proteins. Smooth er involved in the synthesis of fats, steroid molecules and hormones.
