Aristotle heart is center of intellect and brain is radiator for cooling blood overheated by the heart. Roman empire greek physician galen who embraced hippocratic view. He witnessed many injuries from gladiators, but opinions more from animal dissections. Galen tried to deduce function of cerebellum and cerebrum. Cerebellum was hard so it must command muscles. Galen"s deductions were not far from truth cerebrum: largely concerned with sensation, memory and perception. Galen noticed hollow spaces in brain called ventricles containing fluid. Theory: body functioned according to a balance of 4 vital fluids. Sensations registered movements initiated by movement of humors to and from brain ventricles via nerves.
