PSYC 230 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Naturalistic Observation, Lev Vygotsky, Treatment And Control Groups
Document Summary
The social cultural theory focuses on how culture-the values, beliefs, customs, and skills of a social group is transmitted to the next generation. According to him, cooperative dialogues is necessary for children to acquire the ways of thinking and behaving that make a community"s culture. Youngsters and students can learn from a point to another on their own, however, they"re capable of going further, but they need some help (teachers-parents, siblings, etc. ) this is why vygotsky says that learning takes place in a social setting. Evolutionary process: we learn because of our genetic process, we might inherit good abilities and behavior. According to (pergey)?, we learn through the process of accommodation and assimilation. There are two categories of research: correlational research: looks for a relationship between two factors (positive / negative) Negative correlation= one factor increases, another factor decreases. Naturalistic observation: observation of naturally occurring behavior without intervention. (you don"t know you"re being watched)
