Personality is a person"s characteristic thoughts, emotional responses, and behaviours. Their general style of interacting with the world. > personality traits: are patterns of thought, emotion and behaviours that is relatively consistent over time and across situations. Gordan allport: was the rst to publish a major textbook of personality psychology. Championed the study of individuals and established waits as a central concept in personality research. Key ideas: nearly all personality traits have a genetic component, proven in twin studies and adoption studies. Parenting styles have relatively little impact on personality. Genes just give us a predisposition to certain traits. A gene that regulates one particular dopamine receptor has been associated with novelty seeking, and the desire to pursue new experiences. Temperaments: biologically based tendencies to feel or act certain ways. They are broader than personality traits, and aren"t as easily altered by experiences.
