In 2001, david brooks found very little class consciousness in american"s red state, rural heartland. He sees the u. s as being divided according to moral systems . Brooks argue there is a mutual accommodation between the blue and red states. Red states are content with their own lives no resentment towards blue. Red american: traditional, religious, self disciplined and patriotic . Blue american: modern, secular, self expressive and discomfited by blatant displays of patriotism . Divisions are happening within states, not against states particularly. There is no consensus if polarization have grown or decreased. Political operatives and media on both sides have an interest in playing up the divisions between red and blue voters. However, states have repeatedly swung from voting for one party in the presidential election year to the other party in the midterm year and vice-versa. Contradiction on what you want and what candidates are available to make their true position known.
