PHYS 284 Lecture 8: Lesson 8
Document Summary
Planetary geology: geology of the celestial bodies such as the planets their moons, asteroids, comets and meteorites. Earth we can"t see inside earth but clues such as vibration seimic waves-vibrations that travel through the interior of the earth and along the surface after an earth quake tells us what is earth on the inside. Both of the s and p waves travel in different material. S waves can only travel through solid material. This means that seismic graft will not detect s waves if the wave is is in liquid form this means that earth"s core must have a liquid outer layer. Core- metals such as nickel and iron are in the central core. The reason why the interiors are layered is due to a process called differentiation such that when oil in and water are put in a glass, they separate and that is because of their densities.
