Document Summary
We find it at the top of the medulla oblongata. Fa(cid:272)ial (cid:374)er(cid:448)e (cid:449)ill e(cid:374)ter a(cid:374)d e(cid:454)it the skull, (cid:272)o(cid:373)es through the i(cid:374)ter(cid:374)al a(cid:272)ousti(cid:272) (cid:373)eatus a(cid:374)d the(cid:374) exits the skull through the stylomastoid foramen. It"s the se(cid:374)sor(cid:455) portio(cid:374) of the fa(cid:272)ial (cid:374)er(cid:448)e. the larger portion is motor, going to most of the facial nerves. It"s a (cid:373)i(cid:454)ed (cid:374)er(cid:448)e. o(cid:373)e of it sti(cid:373)ulates sali(cid:448)ar(cid:455) gla(cid:374)ds. Does not exit the head and neck region. Enters into the petrous portion through internal acoustic meatus, and it will divide into 2 portions (vestibular and cochlear nerve) Cochlear part is the hearing apparatus in the ear, and the semicircular canals is the balance portion (vestibular nerve) Innervates a lot of the oral cavity, tongue muscles, but also stimulates largest of the salivary glands on lateral aspect of the mandible (ramus), parotid gland, and it has sensory function too. Only one that exits from the head and neck and shoulder area.
