Chapter 1 - Part 2: Reaching Wellness through Lifestyle Management
Introduction/Context
Health
-Health - typially refers to the oerall oditio of a perso’s ody or id ad to the presee or
absence of illness or injury.
-health is based on our health habits and heredity
-Health can be determined or influenced by factors beyond your control, such as your genes, age, and
family history
-we all have diff risk factors (age, fam background, lifestyle habits, etc)
-some of us are MORE at risk than others
-lots of individuality in terms of what health risks might have and what choices you might make
-just means that you must work harder and smarter to dodge it beause you’re more at risk but
knowing it is very important in terms of risk assessment
-Wellness expands our idea of health and is largely determined by the decisions you make about how
you live
-Wellness = optimal health and vitality
Wellness: The New Health Goal
-Dimensions of wellness categories for seletig target ehaiours
-Physical wellness; emotional wellness; intellectual wellness; spiritual wellness;
interpersonal and social wellness; occupational and financial wellness
*there are general behaviours associated with wellness
-Target behavior behavior that we are targeting to fix or work on for clever and analytical reasons,
deemed it to be a problem and motivated to do something about it at this point
-Exercising* - title for millions aspects of fitness and lifestyle activity
-Exercise itself is formal and structured
-Lifestyle activity example = walking up the stairs rather than taking the escalator
-these are what keep people healthy
Occupational + Financial Wellness
-Occupational wellness - enjoyment / fulfillment gained through work/workplace from:
-enjoyment of work activities; connections with colleagues; opportunities for challenges;
growth and expression of abilities; recognition by peers and supervisors; contribution to
society
*want to make it challenging but not a source of health problems
-Financial wellness - ability to live within personal means and effectively manage money with peace of
mind by:
-balancing income and expenditures; staying out of debt; saving for future needs and security;
managing money and emotions
*some people might have good salary but not have anything saved
