Disablement model-world health organization definitions: trauma: injury to living tissue caused by an extrinsic agent (outside body). For example, spinal cord injury from a car accident, head injury, tbi, amputation, Sci, etc: disease (active pathology): interruption of normal cellular processes. For example, cancer (#2), parkinson"s, diabetes, heart disease (#1), stroke (#3), etc. Impairment: loss or abnormality at the tissue, organ, or body system level: physiologic impairments: Pulmonary system: loss of a lung; decrease in breathing capacity. Musculoskeletal system: muscular atrophy, decrease in flexibility (rom)/range of motion, decrease in bone mass, decrease in muscle strength and endurance, inflammation. For example, someone can"t take a bath because they"re paralyzed, or someone can no longer drive because they"re blind. Not being able to write because of parkinson"s disease: handicap: a disadvantage resulting from an impairment or disability that limits or prevents fulfillment of an individual"s role. It is not a classification of individuals but a classification of circumstances.
