Use variety of rms to look at the various outcome(s) of teaching. *study of learning and teaching w goal of improving educ practices and it includes: Study of child and adol dev, learning and motiv, socio-cultural influences on learning, how ppl learn diff subj matter, assessment of teaching & learning, the training of teachers (including testing) Research allows us to put some of the "common sense" ideas to test. Provide data-based evidence to improve learning and teaching. Descriptive studies - ethnographic methods to study naturally-occurring events in the life of classrooms; videotaping teaching and learning activities & then analyzing the diffs btwn 2 grps. Researcher as p-observer who actually interacts w teachers & students in classroom to understand goals & intentions of 1 ind. Ex studying in depth the actions and intentions of 1 ind which could be either teacher or student.
