Software: a set of computer programs that enable the hardware to process data. 2 main types of software: systems software, application software. Software defects: can be inefficient, poorly designed and riddled with errors. Software licensing: making copies of software without the manufacturer"s explicit permission is piracy, copyright: gives the company the exclusive legal right to reproduce, publish and sell their software. Open systems: group of computing products that work together. Systems software: a set of instructions that serves primarily as an intermediary between computer hardware and application programs. Types of interface: graphical user interface (gui, allows users to directly control the hardware by manipulating visible objects, social interface, guides the user through computer applications by using cartoon-like characters, graphics, animation and voice commands. Application software: a set of computer instructions that provides specific functionality to a user: can be purchased, leased or rented from a vendor.
