CHEM 208 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Ozone Depletion, Extreme Ultraviolet, Smog

20 views2 pages

Document Summary

It could lead the atmosphere to be exposed to the ozone. In the ozone formation, there are many reactions happening. The result of those reactions is about the interaction of oxygen and ozone with energy (in this case that is ultraviolet) in the stratosphere layer: o2 + e = 2o. Oxygen is created when energy (ultraviolet) is combined with oxygen: o2 + o = o3. Ozone is created when 2 atoms of oxygen is combined with 1 oxygen: o3 + e = o2 + o. The creation of an atom and an molecule of oxygen by the combination of ozone and energy( ultraviolet: o3 + o = 2o2. The creation of 2 molecules of oxygen by the combination of ozone and 1 atom oxygen. The use of cfc (chlorofluorocarbon) also has a bad effect on the stratosphere. It all depends on the cfc"s time and resistance to get to the layer. Effect of increased intensity of ground level uv radiation.
