The process by which people acquire the behaviors and beliefs of their culture. Identity formation is a central task during adolescence. It is a time to discover who you are and where you come from. It is during this time that society prepares you to take on adult roles. People are taught of the desired behavior they should adopt, and prepares individuals to become functioning members of the community. It is when important traditions of a past generation are transmitted to a future generation. There are 3 main results of the socialization process in adolescence. Self regulation: the ability to comply with social norms and gain the capacity to exercise self-control. Individuals become able to restrain their impulses and comply with social norms. Role preparation: the preparation for occupational roles, gender roles, and for participating in institutions such as marriage and parenthood, adolescents become ready to launch their work life and contemplate career choices.
