Leisure is one of the most positive + wholesome aspects of contemporary life. Under certain circumstances, individuals engage in leisure that society considers deviant. What is purple leisure: much of the leisure that canadians take part in could be viewed as, morally marginal (some canadians, criminal behavior, destructive, to the individual her/himself, to society at large. All of the following could be considered leisure in certain contexts: gambling, commercialized sex, drug/alcohol use, vandalism, cults. All of these can be leisure for the participants: gambling illegally: it is only legal in certain forms + certain locations, buying sexual pleasure: via prostitution or pornography, vandalism: fun for the participants, costly to society. For almost everyone, there is plenty of unstructured leisure + numerous risks associated with leisure, from sports (skiing + mountain biking) to amusement parks (perceived risk).
