Document Summary
At birth, head size is greater than chest circumferences. The head size grows during childhoos, reaching 90% of its final sizr when the child is 6 yeards old. During infancy, however, trunk, growth predominates, so that the proportion of head size to body height changes. Facical bone grow at varying rates, especoaly nasal and jaw bones. In the toddler, the manible and maxilla are small and the nsal bridge s low and so the whole face seems small in comparison with the skull. Lymphoid tissue is well developed at birth and grows to adult size by the age of 6 years. Lymphatic tissue continues to grow rapiisly until age 10 or 11 years, actually exceeding its adult size before puberty. Facial hair also appears in boys at this time: first on the upper lip, then on cheeks and lower lip. The thyroid cartilage enlarges noticeably, and with enlargement, the voice deepens.
