ESET-212 Lecture 2: ESET212-Boiler Inspection and accumulation test
Document Summary
A stationary engineer is responsible for preparing the boiler for annual inspection by the boiler inspector. Why clean boiler before inspection: prior to inspection, the boiler must be opened up on the fire and water sides and be thoroughly cleaned. Cleaning the boiler also increases efficiency and prevents possible damage from neglect. Why the fire side must be cleaned: to prevent corrosion caused by sulfur in the ash, coal, or soot. Cleaning the fire side reduces fuel consumption because soot acts as an insulator and retards the transfer of heat. Why the water side must be cleaned: the water side of a boiler, after a period of time, builds up deposits of sludge and sediment. If feed water treatment is neglected, the boiler may have scale deposits built up on the heating surfaces. The feed water regulator and low water fuel cut-off float chambers must also be opened for internal examination.
