Orientalism: edward said introduced this in his book orientalism. The european colonization of the 18th century caused a divided rep. between europeans and non-europeans. Europeans that came into contact with people of less developed countries perceived them as exotic and inferior. They invented orientalism to study these different people and cultures. They represented orientals as biologically inferior, lazy, irrational in order to justify their rights to colonial domination. The second discourse is as follows mohanty critiques western neocolonial discourses that construct the third world woman in a homogeneous way. They discursively produce a singular image of the third world woman. Feminist texts do not generate objective knowledge about women in less developed countries.
