In canada, we are accountable to two important organizations; The canadian association for social work education (caswe) sets the accreditation standards for all schools of social work in canada including carleton university. Each school is required to provide their students with a full course on social work research. The canadian association of social workers (casw) also recognizes that social workers engage in research. The 2005 casw code of ethics (values statement 6) states that. Social workers who engage in research minimizes the risk to participants, ensure informed consent, maintain confidentiality and accurately report the results of their studies. It is generally agreed that there are five sources of knowledge. Sometimes we explain events and circumstances by referring to outside sources of knowledge or authority on specific topics.
