October 23rd, 2015-10-25 contemporary politics and social work. Canada has unique notions of who gets elected. Some band chiefs are elected, whereas some are hereditary. Board members of regional health authorities are not elected (used to be nominated locally) Federal government has a huge deal in social welfare as they have the bulk of the money. They distribute the tax money through many mechanisms for health and social welfare. Health care transfer and social transfer, distributed amongst provinces that is redistributional. Take from the rich and give to the poor. Historically is was developed with the provinces however with harper government this did not happen much. This also allows government to set terms and conditions for how this is spent. Universal health care comes with the expectation that they abide the canada health act with how they use the money. Provincial and territory are responsible for setting up social policies in their jurisdictions.
