Women and girls comprise just over half of canada(cid:495)s population. The female population in general is aging. A rising number of women and girls identify as an aboriginal person (3. 8%) In nunavut, 86% of females reported an aboriginal identity. The female population is becoming more diverse over time. Female lone parent families made up 18% of all families. In 2010, women spent an average of 50 hours per week on childcare. This is more than double the average time that is spent by men. Socio-economic status is closely related to health. 73% of females over the age of 12 reported that their mental health was very good or excellent. Nearly 2/3 of people who are diagnosed with personality disorders are women. 23% of women who were lone parents experienced food insecurity, compared to only 6% living with a partner. The number of suicide attempts is ten to twenty times higher than the number of suicide deaths.
