Crime is not necessarily about good or bad people. Three common themes to def. of crime: root cause of crime: fundamental causes of crime in a specific community, role of the community: Inter-agency cooperation and partnership; develop partnership in order to function: when we think about crime prevention we must consider these three. Analysis of criminal act: motivation, willingness or capacity (must have intent to commit the crime, conscience (internal and external controls) Crime isn"t just internal, it"s influenced by social order: these social institutions include: Economy: we have safety nets (social support nets, informal and formal, formal safety net: child welfare for children. Saco & kennedy: social setting must be thought about firstly; Social setting: types of locations increases or decrease the likelihood that criminal events will unfold. Community setting (eg: urban vs rural areas, various neighbourhoods of an urban centre)
