Every society has crime, is normal in societal functioning. Too much crime, law enforcement resources cannot contain lead to more crime losing control. There is no consensus as to what deviance is defined as don"t agree on what is and isn"t deviant. Acceptance and tolerance changes in society over time. Extent on what is deviant depends on who listens. Some people see themselves as important (politicians, etc. ) Where is the line drawn and who pays attention. Depends on what the rules are and what they challenge. Don"t think of consequences unless you get caught. Clarifies what is and isn"t acceptable in society. How much you"re prepared to accept, the outer-limit. Ex: accept same-sex marriage but not allow them to raise children.
