Deviance as a quality: deviant act/behaviour. Harm caused by something: smoking, obesity youth gangs. Deviant act violates norms: consensus of norms in society. Negative societal reaction: most people react negatively therefor it is deviant, doesn"t always exemplify something is deviant, deviantized by society (homosexuality) then later accepted. The way it comes to be perceived/viewed as deviant. Mental illness: prevalence and patterns of mental illness. Individual background, family, impulse control: factors contributing to substance abuse, cause of substance abuse, positivist theories. Ideal body: cause of obesity, factors contributing to obesity. Mental illness: stigma associated with mental illness, ways people manage stigma, how they make sense of stigma, how stigma effects their identity and interactions with others. Youth substance abuse: how media frames substance abuse. Ideal body: role of media in shaping beauty standards, medical community shaping beauty standards, how people interact with media, what it means for their sense of self. Youth crime: social construction of youth crime, moral panics.
