Is it bad or just deviates from the norm. Same sex families now have similar rights. Deviance = behaviours or characteristics which have that trait. Deviance = behaviours that people in power say need control. Scholars look at role society has in shaping what is deviant vs. non-deviant. Common acts may be considered unacceptable: ex. Rare characteristics/behaviours may be considered acceptable: ex. Writing left handed was deviant in older generations not anymore: ex. Social: doesn"t need to be directed at a person, cost to society: ex. Smoking, obesity, refusing to wear a mask in pandemic. Protests for rights (women, race) causing social harm for greater change. Society"s masses dislike, hate, fear distrust, disapproval.
