Albert hunter in challenges of social control. Everything we do is based on culture. Western european, semi cultural, oriental, latino, asian, eastern european. Norms come from values, norms are expressions of the cultures values. *every culture has the same value* only a certain number available. They differ in the value placed on different values-value emphasis. Value for education, high in canada, higher than us. Canadians put highest value on human life. All social activity takes place in here. Social intimates, intimacy close , emotive, routine, permanent contacts, strong perception of mutual, emotive dependency. Boys tell urban legends, girls tell secrets. Act of revealing information about yourself another wouldn"t know otherwise, know factually telling secrets, in a way, but much much more. Comprised of small kin + kith groups. Kin- family, given first access to us. Kith- those we know best; shared first access (acquaintance-momentary contact, company) Sympathy group studies (if they died, would dramatically affect you (8-9))
