Multiple demands: parents have to socialize children, provide housing and protection, maintain decorum, work. Strain divergent interpretations of role conflicts leads to stress, anxiety, frustration. Inter-role - work overtime, ignore family needs (e. x. Intra role - obligations to self (e. x. politician - constituents, family, supporters: expectational clarity, rite of privilege - know what"s expected, actors get some slack. Casing role strain/conflict: role preparation - requires full socialisation to play to role, role distinction - purpose, process, timing, prioritise- role hierarchy and ranking. Actor decides what"s most important (sometime requires third part - arbitrator/mediator) Role taking actors consider role expectations of others: expectations form, modify, change performance, we size up the situation/requirements/responses, meaning determines role expectations (how to act) Fulfill normative expectations in own way - create own version of role (own style = adlibbed within societal limits) Some, a lot, total rejection, mostly normative, a result of social location.
