Methodology: gather info and evidence to understand phenomenon. Quantitative: collects data in form of numbers subjective/deductive (develop hypothesis, collect data, conform hypothesis), study designs are controlled: validity and reliability. Socio economic status = stress: education effect stress scale. Instrument: questions: operationalization: how to measure construct, validity: how perfect the measure is, reliability: would you get the same results with repeated try"s, random sample, hypothesis: Quantitative study designs: quasi experiment: no control or test group, experimental: randomization, experimental control. Qualitative: data collected by visuals (interviews, participant observation) looks at cause/effect/relationship b/w variables: objective/ inductive, study design during data collection process, transferability, and trust worthiness. Qualitative methods: observation, participant observation: observe people, ethnography: collect data based on what you see. Semi structured: free flowing: documentary analysis: go through media/documents/books to see what is out there, trustworthiness and transferability: is what you found trustworthy, themes and meanings. Mixed method: concurrent, triangulation: qualitative and quantitative approach, combination of data, grounded theory.
