Learning how to act/behave at a certain age. Role of ages changes with times and cultures. Way we organize society changes the way we treat people of our society. This could reduce the number of children in the future, increase number of poor seniors etc Old age is seen as something that needs to be treated, medicated. Seniors have been able to lobby for more social assistance. Common perception is that seniors are burden on government budget. Media has constructed a fear of aging among the population. Many assumpitons about old age which gives society a negative view of old age. Gender and racial inequalities persist into old age. Gender, class and race shape the way old age is perceived. We are sold the idea that slowing and stopping aging is possible. Some cultures expect seniors to keep working until becoming hospitalized. Others make elders their leaders because of their supposed wisdom and knowledge .
