Document Summary

A traveler in the 14th century delhi, the city of tughlug(q) sultans. Moroccan, sunni muslim, jurist and legal specialist in islamic law (he is viewed as an expert in the islamic law). Travels for about 20 years from morocco to china. He records his experiences over 75,000 miles of travel with rulers, thieves, saints and others. We get a fairly biased account, but detailed. He is a little greedy and full of himself. He works for various kings/rulers who required religious/legal justifications for their activities. He is employed by the tughlug sultans in 1330 when he describes delhi and its ruler, the sultan abu (cid:494)l-mujahid muhammed and shah. A description of dihli his description is very accurate. The sultan muhammad shah is extremely rich (we know this because he lives in a quarter of the city). He may have gotten this money from war (taking it to other people) or expanding your land (more tax money).
