In general, chinese religions reflect 4 strands of influence contributing to their philosophies and ideas of afterlife. Ideas of the end of time and eternal salvation do not have much effect on how religion is practiced. Yang signifies qualities of light, heat, height, expansion, activity, masculinity. Yin signifies qualities of dark, cool, depth, contraction, tranquility, femininity. Different theories on the origin of these words, one idea is from chinese words for sun and moon, or bright an shady side of a mountain.
