We often, in our everyday life, spend very little time thinking about death, how to face it, and how to deal with it. Often the focus is on how to avoid it and not actually how to accept it. This course will look at several religions and how they deal with and approach the concept of death. Portray death as a completely absurd element of an intelligible life, etc: ex. Require us to understand life to understand death. See death as a doorway to another life or to a spiritual existence. In most societies, despite death often being a form of moving on to a better life, the concepts of mourning make us believe that death is often not considered a happy and good thing. Metaphorically, death is associated with a major loss. We will see when we go through this course that there are other ways of looking at death, not just loss.

In order to understand how cells function, we often have to use analogies to everyday items or processes to explain the jobs of the various organelles. In this assignment, we're asking you to determine which everyday items that you can find around the house (from your kitchen/desk drawers, backpack, a recycling bin, food, etc.) to represent the organelles inside a cell, and to assemble those items into a 3-dimensional representation of a eukaryotic (plant or animal) cell. Think about how the items you're using can best represent the various parts of the cells and their functions. For example, what does the mitochondria do? What household item do you have that is analogous, or could represent that function?

Note that the items that you find may or may not visually resemble their cellular counterparts. It's fine if they don't - weâre looking for you to demonstrate to us that you know what the various organelles do, and that you can think creatively about what objects fill that role in your house or in your life. Therefore, your finished "model" may not look much (or at all) like the diagram of a cell from your textbook! However, if the spatial organization of organelles is important (e.g. if one type of organelle is always located next to another), we do expect to see that reflected in your model.

Your model will need to include:

A picture (or pictures) of your model. The picture(s) must contain your name written on a piece of paper next to your model. If you'd like, include a picture of yourself with your model. (A cell-fie!)

Proper identification of the cell (is it a plant or animal cell)?

For each organelle/structure:

Correct labeling/identification of the structure in your image/video

A description of the organelle's function, which should be in YOUR OWN WORDS, not copied from the book, lectures, or other sites.

A justification for why the object that you chose to represent each organelle is a good analogy for that organelle's function.

Attention to quality and creativity â which will weigh into the overall evaluation.

You can do this in a text document, a powerpoint presentation, or a short video in which you verbally explain your model (be sure to include your name in the video!). Note that you will NOT receive credit for a drawing of a cell or a collage or collection of images found online. Any images you submit must be completely original and made by you. Your name should be in any document and/or picture you submit. Submissions without names will receive reduced credit.

This is NOT intended to be a burdensome exercise, nor should you need to purchase any materials to complete this assignment - I would like for it to be a fun way for you to practice working with the different types of organelles and their structures and functions, and to think creatively about the materials you have on hand.

Having spent more than three decades interviewing hundreds of campus recruits and watching young CPAs develop and grow into trusted advisors, I want to share with you 10 truths to guide you on your path to success in the accounting profession.

Be inquisitive. As a recent graduate, you are not expected to know how to put your knowledge into practice. In fact, most of your new colleagues expect that you will rely on them to learn the ropes. If you have a question, ask it, whether it is how to complete a task, how the laws have changed or how to handle a client challenge. It is better to ask a question and potentially appear uninformed than it is to take action without having the right information. You must still perform research to learn, but do not be afraid to ask for help. Being vulnerable is an essential component to becoming a caring professional with an arsenal of knowledge to advise clients.

Commit the effort to hone your skills. Your education provided you with a solid base upon which you can build a rewarding career in accounting, but there is so much more to learn. Roll up your sleeves and take advantage of every opportunity to acquire knowledge. Enhance both your technical and leadership skills and become a proficient advisor in a practice area or industry where your passion and leadership can shine. The more you learn, the more you increase your chances of becoming a valued and trusted advisor.

Get out of your comfort zone and take risks. Avoid complacency and the risk of falling into a routine that keeps you stagnant and impedes your ability to achieve the career you desire. Be open to new people, new ideas and new experiences; share your curiosity; and have fun. You may have planned to be an auditor, but if you are tapped for a valuation project, go with it and see what you can learn. By taking risks, you can step into new opportunities and grow in the process. You have chosen a profession where constant change and challenge are the norm. Understand and adapt to the seasons of an accountantâs life. Accountants live and breathe by deadlines. Unlike your time in college, when you could cram a semester of knowledge into a few days before a final exam, you cannot build a career as an accountant by pulling all-nighters. Deadline season is a known factor that you can count on and prepare for in advance. Learn how to smooth out your workflow by taking advantage of non-deadline times to get work done prior to delivery dates. We want you to have a quality life outside the office where personal matters may pop up just when youâre working on deadline. Get it done early.

Collaborate and make friends with your coworkers. With so much of our day spent at work, it is important to develop and nurture relationships with your colleagues. Take advantage of every opportunity to socialize with the people in your office, at every level and in every department. Learn to leverage their expertise to help you with client issues. Introduce them to others at every opportunity. Professionally, your coworkers play a strategic role in moving the firm forward and supporting your development. At all times, treat others with dignity and respect. On a personal level, you may be surprised to find how much you have in common with your coworkers, many of whom will become your closest friends and loudest cheerleaders.

Build your network and cultivate relationships with mentors. Accounting is an apprenticeship profession in which people develop people. Seek out and develop relationships with professionals you admire and who understand this concept. Ask questions and acquire knowledge that will empower you and support your ongoing professional development. We are invested in your ultimate success.

Demonstrating your technical skills will not be enough; you must learn all you can about your clients, their industries and their challenges, and you must demonstrate that you provide the value, attention and nurturing they expect and deserve from a trusted consultant.
